Wage Setting

  • You must pay at least minimum wage to all self-hired staff.
  • Offering a competitive salary will help with recruiting.
  • Consider the justifiable reason for large wage gaps between staff.
  • Each FI will have a different salary cap based on their fringe.
  • Consider leaving room for wage increases.

Overtime

Overtime must be paid as time and a half.  Most agencies strictly forbid overtime without prior authorization.

Tips for Recruiting staff

Access the Community

Some of the greatest staff are right under your nose.  Ask around at school, church, family and friends.  Look to the people who already provide you a great deal of your support.

Social Media

Posting on your social media account, joining groups related to self direction, and asking friends to share can have a far greater reach than you'd think.

Employment Sites

Consider sites like Care.com, indeed.com, supportal.com, sittercity.com

Print Media

Look to your local newspapers and circulars. Hang posters at local colleges.
